OESA will host a members-only town hall meeting with Bob Socia, vice president, global purchasing and supply chain, General Motors Co., and GM purchasing and engineering staffs, April 26, 2010, at the Somerset Inn, Troy, Mich.  The town hall offers OESA members a unique opportunity to participate in an open question and answer session with members of the GM purchasing and engineering teams.  In addition, there will be ample time to meet GM executives informally before and after the meeting.  This meeting is open to OESA regular and affiliate members only.

GM will support this town hall by having the purchasing and engineering counterparts from each of its system management teams at the meeting.   Karl-Friedrich Stracke, vice president, global vehicle engineering, and Dan Hancock, vice president, global powertrain engineering, are also expected to participate in this town hall.  Socia will update attendees on the significant changes occurring within GM that affect GM’s supplier relationships, global footprint and product direction.  In addition, GM has invited representatives from indirect purchasing, logistics, quality, and other areas that influence the success of the GM supply chain.

Socia was appointed to head GM global purchasing and supply chain operations on July 1, 2009.  Prior to his current assignment, Socia served as executive vice president of Shanghai GM, GM's flagship joint venture in China.  Between 1994 and 1997, Socia gained international experience in various senior purchasing positions at GM do Brasil.  Previously, he served as executive director, chemical, for GM worldwide purchasing.  He began his professional career at GM’s Cadillac Division in Detroit in 1975, and worked in GM’s finance and materials management areas.

GM executives will be available during the 60-minute registration and networking session that begins at 1 p.m.  The town hall program, which runs from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., includes approximately 30 minutes for Socia’s prepared remarks and a 60-minute question and answer session.
