Auto supplier Metaldyne Corp. said today it is closing its chassis plant in Greenville, N.C., because of production cuts from North American customers. "Metaldyne on the whole has been affected by production cuts from Chrysler and Ford," said Tina Kozak, Metaldyne spokeswoman. "Specific to Metaldyne Greenville, I don't know what customers affected it."The plant will close in December, and the phase-out will begin in July. The plant employs 69 people.Production and equipment will be transferred to a plant in Greensboro, N.C.Metaldyne, of Plymouth Township, Mich., supplies components, assemblies and modules for powertrain and chassis parts. The company was acquired in January by Asahi Tec Corp. of Japan in a $1.2 billion deal.Metaldyne ranks No. 25 on the Automotive News list of the top 150 suppliers to North America with North American original-equipment automotive parts sales of $1.80 billion in 2005.
