Motor Vehicle Parts Suppliers Speak Out in Washington, DC!

More than 130 automotive and heavy duty parts supplier CEOs and senior executives attended the 2007 MEMA Legislative Summit on May 16-17.

The event opened on May 16 with a keynote address by Dave McCurdy, president, Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. He urged attendees to invite members of Congress to tour their facilities and show them first-hand the advanced technology involved in today’s vehicles.

Stephen Northrup, senior government relations director, Arent Fox, followed McCurdy with his presentation on health care issues’ affect on the coming elections and the next administration and Congress.

Participants had the opportunity to display the latest motor vehicle parts technology and meet with members of Congress and their staff at the Congressional Reception & Supplier Fair on May 16.

Sens. Carl Levin (Mich) and George Voinovich (Ohio) were each presented the Joseph M. Magliochetti Industry Champion award on May 17. Members also met with congressional delegations on Capitol Hill, and, at the closing luncheon, heard the comments of Dennis Fitzgibbons, majority staff director of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Sen. Levin previewed the “American Manufacturing Initiative,” a comprehensive agenda to revitalize the domestic manufacturing industry, at the MEMA Legislative Breakfast on May 17. The initiative was announced by Michigan Democrats in Congress later that day.
