The Commerce Department will start testing an online portal that importers will be able to use to seek exclusions from U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs. MEMA and member companies have criticized the current Commerce process as cumbersome, onerous and inefficient.
According to the Federal Register notice published November 26, the online portal will streamline the exclusion process by moving to web-based forms. Companies interested in participating in the public testing are encouraged to submit a request following the instructions in the notice. The deadline to request to participate is November 29. The public testing will take place in Washington December 6-7.
If you are interested in participating, MEMA would like to hear your experiences and share industry concerns. Please contact Catherine Boland for more information.
