The EPA has postponed its proposed rulemaking on its Cleaner Trucks Initiative (Heavy-Duty Low NOx proposal), which was initially expected in September 2020.
EPA senior staff confirmed last week that the HD NOx NPRM will be delayed and will most likely be issued first or second quarter of 2021. This postponement was for several reasons, which include delays on EPA research and testing and the OEMs inability to engage on the rulemaking as much as necessary.
MEMA will use the additional time to advocate our position (HD NOx standards, HDIUT, Warranty and FUL) and share with EPA MEMA’s ideas on data gathering for the extended warranty period.
Meanwhile, MEMA is writing comments for California Air Resources Board’s proposal on their Heavy-duty NOx Omnibus Rulemaking. Comments are due to California August 25.
