Much of the Senate's attention this week will focus on nominations. The House will not hold votes this week and instead will hold a committee work week. There will be votes in the House next week, which is a change from the original schedule.
On Monday, the Senate overwhelmingly supported the nomination of Secretary Janet Yellen to lead the Department of Treasury by a vote of 84-14. During Yellen’s confirmation hearing, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) asked her some questions directly related to supplier interests – EVs and the fiscal health of mid-size suppliers. On Tuesday, the Senate Commerce Committee held a nomination hearing on the nomination of Gov. Gina Raimondo to be Secretary of Commerce. Today, the Senate Commerce Committee will vote on the nomination of former Mayor Pete Buttigieg to serve as Secretary of Transportation. Last week, the Committee held a hearing on Buttigieg’s nomination.
Also today, Wednesday, the Senate Energy Committee will hear testimony from Gov. Jennifer Granholm to serves as Secretary of Energy.
