MEMA Seeks More Time to Comment on AV Rulemaking Framework

Date: January 5, 2021
MEMA joined several industry stakeholders on a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requesting an extension of the public comment period on the recently published Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking titled “Framework for Automated Driving System Safety.” (View article from last month here)

The agency’s ANPRM seeks input on a variety of substantive technical and policy matters; the current deadline is February 1, 2021.

Stakeholders requested an additional 60 days in order to have more time to conduct consultations with members and experts and provide adequate feedback to NHTSA. However, requests like this are not guaranteed to be granted, therefore, MEMA staff will proceed to draft comments accordingly. If your company is interested in engaging with the MEMA Vehicle Safety Subcommittee on this topic, please contact Leigh Merino.
