MEMA Submits Letter to President Applauding Executive Order on Apprenticeships

Date: June 27, 2017

Last week, MEMA President Steve Handschuh sent a letter to President Trump applauding the Executive Order on apprenticeships and indicating MEMA’s interest in working with the administration in updating existing apprenticeship programs.

The Executive Order will cut back the federal government's role in creating and monitoring apprenticeship programs, which the White House says will help fill vacant jobs. Additionally, third-party entities – including trade groups, labor unions and businesses – will take over the role of developing apprenticeship programs instead of the Labor Department.

MEMA will continue to monitor developments in this and keep members updated on developments. For more information, please contact Catherine Boland.
