Mexico Provides Avenue to Allow Auto Manufacturers to Restart This Week

Date: May 19, 2020

Mexico’s General Health Council has announced that auto manufacturers and suppliers will be permitted to begin resuming operations today, although companies must follow specific health and safety orders. On May 14, Mexico’s government stated in its gazette that it would allow essential businesses to resume operations during that preparation period if they provide detailed safety protocols and get them approved.

MEMA appreciates the efforts President Lopez Obrador has made to address ramping up vehicle and parts production in Mexico. Allowing motor vehicle parts manufacturing to take steps toward reopening will be a critical component to economic recovery. Our members are working closely with their Mexican operations to address the safety and health protocols laid out by the Mexican government.
