Trump on Track to Slap Tariffs on Canada’s Aluminum Again

MEMA Industry News Editor’s Note: MEMA is deeply concerned over news that the Trump administration may reimpose 10 percent aluminum tariffs on Canada, right as both countries prepare for the entry-into-force date with Mexico for the United States – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA). MEMA has argued consistently that for the new trade deal to be effective, the administration must lift tariffs on steel and aluminum.

The U.S. is urging Canada to implement quotas to slow its aluminum exports, or risk the U.S. imposing a 10 percent tariff on the metal.
