MEMA Joins Manufacturing and Tech Associations Calling for Longer Comment Period of New Export Control Rule

Date: July 9, 2019

MEMA signed a letter on June 27 calling for the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) to provide a 90-day comment period in response to the Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) on technology export control.

In the letter, MEMA thanked Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross for his efforts to reach the goals initiated by the Export Control Reform Act of 2018 (ECRA) while at the same time giving associations that touch on the tech industry the opportunity to provide feedback.

“The development of industry input in response to the emerging technologies ANPRM provided a window into the complex dimensions of these proposed policy changes,” wrote MEMA and 26 other associations. “We thank you for recognizing those challenges and graciously extending the timeframe for interested parties to respond.”
