AASA, OAC Announce Recipients of 2016 Jeremy Denton Memorial Scholarships

Annual Awards to Automotive Students Honor Late AASA OAC Executive Director
Date: June 07, 2016

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.  – The Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), the light vehicle aftermarket division of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), and the AASA Overseas Automotive Council (OAC) announced the 2016 recipients of its scholarships in memory of the late Jeremy Denton, AASA vice president and OAC executive director:

  • Joshua Canuto of Waterflow, N.M., who is attending the automotive program at San Juan College, Farmington, N.M.
  • Shekinah Davies of Arco, Idaho, who is participating in the AAS-automotive program at the College of Southern Idaho

The OAC Board of Directors initiated the memorial fund through the University of the Aftermarket Foundation in November 2014. Each year, $1,000 annual scholarships are presented to one male and one female student pursuing careers in the automotive aftermarket industry.

“AASA and OAC are committed to supporting outstanding students such as Joshua and Shekinah as they pursue their education and their aftermarket careers,” said Bill Long, AASA president and chief operating officer. “Our scholarships are not only an important investment in our great industry, but an enduring tribute to Jeremy’s passion for the aftermarket and its future.”

Denton was a member of the AASA team from 2005 through 2011. In addition to his positions at AASA and OAC, he also served as staff executive for the Filter Manufacturers Council (FMC), the Brake Manufacturers Council (BMC) and the AASA China Aftermarket Forum (CAF). He died in 2013 at age 36 after a valiant, two-year battle with cancer.
