Auto Care Association, MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers Release 2025 Joint Powertrain Trends and Outlook Forecast Report

Comprehensive new report from Auto Care Association and MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers explores shifting consumer perceptions, hybrid market momentum and long-term EV outlook through 2035.
Date: November 05, 2025

BETHESDA, M.D. and RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Auto Care Association and MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers, in collaboration with Strategy&, the strategy division of PwC, today announced the release of the 2025 Joint Powertrain Trends & Outlook Forecast. This year's report provides the most comprehensive look yet at the evolving landscape of the electric vehicle and hybrid aftermarket, capturing key shifts in consumer behavior, market share and technological development.

The 2025 report acknowledges the significant changes in market conditions for EVs and provides updated data and forecasts to help aftermarket professionals prepare for what's ahead. Among the questions it explores are:

  • How do consumer perceive battery electric vehicles now and what's driving the growing popularity of hybrids?
  • How will the share of new vehicle sales change for BEVs and hybrids between now and 2035?
  • What has made China so successful at adapting to BEVs?

Developed with research contributions from IMR | Endeavor Business Intelligence and S&P Global Market Intelligence, this study is a critical resource for suppliers navigating an increasingly diverse powertrain mix.

"This year's report captures an important inflection point for the automotive aftermarket," said Philip Atkins, director of strategic research and planning at MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers. "As hybrid adoption grows alongside a more measured EV trajectory, suppliers need clear data and insight to make informed strategic decisions. This report delivers just that."

"Electrification remains a defining trend for the aftermarket, but it's also evolving in complex and sometimes surprising ways," said Michael Chung, executive director of market intelligence at Auto Care Association. "Our joint research helps members understand not just what's happening, but why and how to position themselves to serve tomorrow's vehicle population."

The 2025 Joint Powertrain Trends & Outlook Forecast is available now. Auto Care Association and MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers members can access the report as a free membership benefit. Non-members can purchase the report at digital.autocare.org or mema.org.
