First Comprehensive Account and Timeline of Remanufacturing History Presented by Council of Remanufacturing Excellence ReThink Tank
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – The MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers Council of Remanufacturing Excellence (CoRE) ReThink Tank presented its new historical account and virtual timeline of remanufacturing history during the Remanufacturing Roadshow & Annual Conference in Indianapolis on June 4, 2025. This first comprehensive telling of remanufacturing history was announced in a video featuring interviews with remanufacturing trailblazers.
Members of the CoRE ReThink Tank began gathering and reviewing submissions for the historical timeline in 2024. After hours of interviews and fact-checking, the timeline began to take shape. From Rottler Manufacturing marking the start of engine remanufacturing in 1923 to MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers unveiling the Manufactured Again™ Certification in 2016, the timeline features important federal, association and remanufacturing company milestones.
"We created this timeline so the next generation of remanufacturers can see where we've been and feel empowered to write what comes next," said Brad Moss, director of technology, research & development at DieselCore and CoRE executive committee member. "This timeline is more than a history; it's a tribute to those who kept building, tinkering and improving—even when the world told them it couldn't be done."
"RemanHistory.com is a testament to the innovation and resiliency of the vehicle supplier remanufacturing industry," said Sara Kaderly, remanufacturing lead at MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers. "The timeline is a tool for remanufacturers to utilize in their future planning and business decisions. Understanding our past is key in forging our future."
CoRE members advance remanufacturing by focusing on knowledge-sharing and collaboration among members. The council is made up of global managers, engineering directors, directors of business development, project heads, marketing and sales professionals, among others. The CoRE ReThink Tank is a working group established to address industry challenges through innovative solutions and insights.
At RemanHistory.com, visitors can learn the power of remanufacturing's history. Reman history continues to be made, so the timeline continues to be updated. Companies that want to share their organization's impact on remanufacturing are invited to contact Sara Kaderly.
