MEMA Advocacy: Always Working for Suppliers

Date: February 03, 2025
Source: Paul McCarthy, President, MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers

Dear MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers Members,

The aftermarket is facing a defining moment. From trade disputes to the fight for Right to REPAIR, the policies shaping our industry’s future are being written right now and MEMA is making sure your voice is heard.

Most recently we shared our concerns on tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada. We recognize and respect the broader policy issues being pursued. However, given the integrated nature of the North American supplier production base, these tariffs can jeopardize American jobs and impact consumers and the economy.

We seek our vision of a more successful supplier community; in the long run, we need support for policies that increase the competitiveness of manufacturing, increase prosperity, and support a successful and innovative future for the largest manufacturing sector in the U.S. : vehicle suppliers.

At MEMA, our mission is clear: to advance and champion your business interests—even in the most unpredictable environments. But advocacy isn’t just a mission statement; it’s action. Every day, our team is taking action through meetings with leaders, on Capitol Hill, and in direct conversations with regulators, pushing for real, tangible outcomes that drive your success.

Staying informed and engaged is more important than ever. Also, more important than ever is hearing from you and gathering facts about potential impacts so we can be your voice. Here’s how you can stay in the know and help drive the aftermarket forward.

Stay Informed

  • Our bi-weekly advocacy newsletter On The Hill (confirm your subscription here)

  • The Advocacy page on our website is a valuable resource, offering key updates and talking points on trade, emissions, safety, taxes, and other vital issues impacting your business.

  • Our LinkedIn page

  • Participate in our member surveys—like our supplier Barometer—which let you know what other suppliers are thinking and allow us to gather valuable member insights. Survey participants get access to the full reports.

Advocating for What Matters to You

Government Advocacy Committee (GAC) : MEMA’s frontline for member engagement in government advocacy. Free admission to our government affairs committees and working groups is a key value of your MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers membership. The GAC meets quarterly to tackle major policy issues, with subcommittees and working groups diving deeper into critical topics. These groups provide timely updates, actionable insights, and a direct voice in shaping industry policies.

  • REPAIR Act Working Group

  • Staff Contact: Carter Salwin

  • Trade Working Group

  • Staff Contact: Bill Frymoyer

  • Chemicals and Environment Working Group

  • Staff Contact: Emily Sobel

  • The next GAC meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in Washington, D.C. and virtually via Zoom. Learn more here.

These are vital forums for us to understand what matters to you so we can champion aftermarket suppliers— commercial vehicle, automotive, and remanufacturing— in the halls of government.

Advancing What Matters to You

We also have a number of councils where government affairs and advocacy are regular topics of conversation, including:

  • CEO Council

  • HD Marketing & Sales Forum

  • Overseas Automotive Council

  • CORE (Council of Remanufacturing Excellence)

  • Mobility Technology Council (addresses advocacy issues related to ADAS, REPAIR Act, diagnostics, etc.)

  • Intellectual Property Committee

  • Marketing Executives Council

  • Brake Manufacturers Council

The first three have had extensive conversations related to trade and tariff issues in recent meetings. Join, learn, and let your experience be heard.

We Are Stronger Together

MEMA is your aftermarket supplier voice. We’re here to keep you informed, fight for your business, and make sure you’re ready for what’s ahead.
