MEMA Commends USTR and Trump Administration for Advancing USMCA Joint Review Discussions

WASHINGTON, D.C. — MEMA, The Vehicle Suppliers Association, today commended U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and the Trump Administration for advancing bilateral technical discussions with Mexico in advance of the July 1 USMCA Joint Review. USTR Greer and Mexican Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard met to formally launch this next phase of discussions, focused on expanding manufacturing employment and strengthening North American supply chains. These are priorities that MEMA has long championed.

"President Trump’s USMCA agreement is the foundation for American manufacturing across North America and our global competitiveness. Our members—including the small- and medium-sized businesses that are the backbone of our industry—depend on the certainty this agreement provides to invest, grow and create jobs. As the largest segment of manufacturing jobs in the U.S., we look forward to working with the administration and USTR to build on USMCA's success and ensure that its benefits continue to accrue to American workers and manufacturers." 

The vehicle supplier industry supports more than 930,000 employees across the country. Since the implementation of USMCA, U.S. parts production has increased by more than $37 billion, and the sector has added thousands of jobs. Overall, U.S. exports to Canada and Mexico have grown by 46 percent, while imports have declined by 25 percent—clear evidence that the agreement is delivering for American manufacturers. 

MEMA's member companies have been on the front lines of implementing the USMCA for the past six years. Their experience is unequivocal: USMCA has preserved U.S. jobs, strengthened regional supply chain resilience and given the United States critical leverage to counterbalance growing Chinese influence in the vehicle sector. More than 70 percent of MEMA member companies identify North America as the primary region for their sourcing and manufacturing operations—a direct result of the certainty and stability the agreement provides. 

MEMA will continue to engage with the administration, Congress, and trading partners to advocate for a USMCA review outcome that supports American supply chain resilience, expands U.S. manufacturing employment and ensures this agreement remains the gold standard for regional trade.
