Airbus Tariffs:

April 8, 2019: USTR proposes tariffs on EU products valued at $21 billion

July 1, 2019: USTR threatened to impose additional tariffs on EU products valued at $4 billion after comments on the first list of products.

October 2, 2019: WTO rules that the U.S. can impose $7.5 billion in tariffs in response to illegal EU subsidies to Airbus that hurt American rival Boeing.

October 9. 2019: USTR announces 10% and 25% tariffs on goods from certain member states of the EU in response to allegations that the EU "denied U.S. rights under the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement and have failed to implement WTO Dispute Settlement Body recommendations concerning certain subsidies to the EU large civil aircraft industry."

October 17, 2019: U.S. Customs and Border Protection issues a Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) message with guidelines on the new 10% and 25% tariffs that are set to take effect on October 18, 2019.

Some background: In 2004, the U.S. filed a claim with the WTO claiming EU countries harmed Boeing by illegally subsidizing Airbus. In 2005, the EU filed a competing claim against the U.S. Finally, in 2018, the WTO ruled in favor of the U.S. which cleared the way for the U.S. to retaliate.
