Our members keep America moving. To ensure our industry continues to get people where they need to go, every single part of our ecosystem—from the supply chain managers to the front-line worker installing the last piece on an assembly line—must work together. No part is too small. Every part, every person, has a purpose. Including you.
A Big Part
A Big Part of the U.S. Economy
Since 2020, the United States-Mexican-Canada Agreement (USMCA) has been good for the industry. The automotive industry has seen a 27% increase in jobs in just five short years. Paired with production, suppliers have contributed $______ to the GDP. This is admirable growth for the sector, and MEMA is incredibly proud of the industry’s progress as a result of USMCA.
But, with the latest policy changes, there isn’t profitability in the supply chain to absorb the tariffs. It can take years to move a plant and build a new one, making reshoring a long-term strategy, given the financial, operational, structural and workforce barriers to U.S.-based production expansion.
There will be a ripple of unintended consequences as suppliers are subject to tariffs that were previously excluded through the USMCA. Here’s the part we’d like you to play. To keep the supplier industry stable during this time of uncertainty, we need you to be informed and to be part of the conversation.
The Latest from MEMA
In doing our part to keep our members and the supplier industry as a whole informed, we’ve been issuing continual statements, hosting conversations and providing on-the-hill advocacy in real time.
