CARB Launches CORE Project to Promote Zero-Emission Freight Equipment

Date: February 11, 2020

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) launched a new $44 million initiative on Jan. 31 called the Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE), a project that will promote the purchase and lease of zero-emission freight equipment.

“The launch of CORE represents an instrumental cost reduction program for zero-emission off-road freight technologies in our communities most burdened by air pollution,” said San Diego County Supervisor and CARB Member Nathan Fletcher.

CARB released an online catalogue of eligible off-road freight equipment on Feb. 3, which according to Transport Topics, “includes on- and off-road terminal tractors, transport refrigeration units, railcar movers, gantry cranes and forklifts.” Vouchers going up to $500,000 will be provided for these eligible items to offset the high cost of the equipment.
