MEMA and 47 representatives from 30 member companies were on Capitol Hill Sept. 11 to meet with legislators and urge them to pass the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA) as soon as possible. In total, the group held more than 40 meetings with Congressional leaders and staff as part of MEMA’s “Pass USMCA!” Legislative Fly-In.
During the meeting, attendees were shown a video presentation from MEMA’s President and CEO Bill Long.
“Our country depends on a strong and successful motor vehicle supplier industry,” Long said in the video. “Every state is a motor vehicle parts manufacturing state. Every single one. Passing USMCA is a vote to ensure America and the American vehicle parts manufacturers have what they need to thrive in an ever more complicated and competitive global market.”
Long’s message was echoed by Deputy United States Trade Representative C.J. Mahoney, who came to the meeting to brief attendees on the status of the USMCA before their meetings with Congressional leaders and staff.
MEMA has encouraged members to support the USMCA and has called for bipartisan support of the trade deal.
