Take Action - Resolution Opposing 232 Auto Tariffs

Date: June 11, 2019

The mayor of Rochester Hills and Vice President of the U.S Conference of Mayors, Bryan Barnett, will propose the agreed upon resolution (attached) on Auto 232 tariffs to the US Conference of Mayors (USCM) in June. This resolution has been supported by MEMA along with the Auto Alliance, Global Automakers, and NADA and will be posted May 29th.  We encourage our members to reach out to their mayor representing their facilities and ask for their support on the Resolution. We also ask you to encourage plant managers and employees to do the same.

The Resolution urges the Administration to not declare auto and auto parts a national security risk and to not move forward with any tariffs or quotas imported automobiles and auto parts. Since membership of the U.S. Conference of Mayors is limited by population, please use the link found here and type a city name into the search box to find out if a city’s mayor is a member. The search results should also include contact information, such as an email address, to reach the Mayor’s office.

The USCM consists of 1,400 members and, if the Resolution passes, would send a strong message to the Administration on the negative impact tariffs would have on the supplier community. MEMA Contact:  Melanie Weiland
